The full story
Vidarr Skallgrim – Nordic Hunter
Vidarr Skallgrim was born on the edge of Skildavold, a village buried deep in the forests of Nordheim. From boyhood he proved himself with a bow, his eyes sharper than most and his hand steady even in the worst winter storms. He hunted to feed his kin, and as he grew, the people of Skildavold came to respect him not only for his skill, but for his honesty and his tireless service to the village. To them he was a hunter. To Magnar, he became something more.
For the war chief saw in Vidarr a rare talent, a woodsman whose senses bordered on supernatural. Vidarr could track a man across frozen rivers, hear a branch snap half a mile away, and strike down prey before they ever knew they were stalked. He became Magnar’s shadow in the trees, the eye and arrow that reached where even his fiercest warriors could not. Deer and elk were not all Vidarr hunted. Outsiders who dared cross Nordheim’s borders, skirting past the beasts that prowled its wastes, often found themselves in his sights.
Vidarr held no malice for these wanderers. Yet Magnar’s word was law, and the word was clear: no outsider may trespass upon Nordheim’s woods, lest they disturb the peace of the divine. So Vidarr obeyed, loosing arrow after arrow into the hearts of strangers who would never see their homes again. The people of Skildavold still call him their protector, the hunter who keeps raiders and monsters at bay. Few know that he has spilt as much human blood as he has beasts.
Now his reputation spreads far beyond his village. Some whisper that he is more than a man, a servant of the gods themselves, blessed to walk unseen among the trees. Others say he is cursed, a killer bound to Magnar’s will with no will of his own. Vidarr pays no heed to the stories. He keeps his bow strung, his quiver full, and his gaze sharp. For in the silence of Nordheim’s forests, he knows the gods are watching, and no interloper leaves while he stands guard.
